Scapha: Mixed Materials Refit
An aluminum yacht, Scapha was originally built as the Calliope in 1981 by the Stephens yard for a member of the Kaiser family. At 78 feet overall, she cruised the Pacific Northwest and Canada for many years, a distinctive sight with a seaplane stowed on her swimstep. In 2002, the newly renamed Scapha came to Townsend Bay Marine for a complete refit.
Our friend, John Anderson, of John L. Anderson Yacht Design of Kingston, Washington was the designer for this extensive refit. The work included a new interior arrangement, a new galley, new engines, a bow and stern thruster and a completely new electrical system. The owner wanted to upgrade the interior with new woodwork, soft covers, and cabinetry. The resulting saloon provides owner and guests with a luxurious and comfortable place to relax while cruising, while thoroughly in keeping with the quality and style of the original interior.
The owner wanted an enclosed flybridge, and, demonstrating our comfort with a variety of materials, TBM fabricated a composite flybridge cover and mated it seamlessly to the aluminum structure of the cabin.
